And why curiosity didn’t kill the cat!

The greatest skill my parents ever taught me was to ask questions, and good ones. Throughout school I drove my teachers mad as I hurtled a myriad of questions onto them. But now, as a teacher, I wish more children would as more questions.

Anyone who ever made any great discovery first began in a state of wonder. This wonder grew to curiosity of the mysterious. In the end, that curiosity led to action being taken. Albert Einstein, one of the greatest thinkers and discoverers of all time had this to say:

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. ~ Albert Einstein

Einstein was so wrapped up in the mystery of the world. He dedicated himself to untangling the science behind how things work and led scientists to think in ways they had never before thought. He appreciated how the opposite worlds of art and science both needed to experience the mysterious.

When asked more about mystery, Einstein said: “He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed.” A life without it is not an exciting one to be living.

I have had the privilege of having travelled to many different and unique countries. I have stood in awe as the mysteries of these far off lands were revealed to me. Staying curious, living in wonder and getting excited about the mysterious is the best way to live while remaining young at heart. What mysteries are arousing your curiosity? And what are you going to do about it?
